At Coaldale Dental Centre, we can help you redesign and reshape your smile with veneers. Veneers cover teeth that are stained, chipped, or misaligned, making a dramatic difference to your smile – and often, to your self-confidence as well.
Are Veneers for You?
Veneers are a popular option for many people who are interested in improving the appearance of chipped, stained, or awkwardly spaced teeth. However, your teeth and gums should be healthy for veneers to be successfully placed on your teeth – if your tooth surface is fractured or weak or if you grind your teeth, veneers may not be an ideal solution for you. Those who can use veneers tell us they appreciate that veneers:
Composite Resin Veneers
To apply a veneer, your dentist will slightly roughen the surface of the teeth to be veneered with a mild chemical. This will help the veneer adhere to the enamel. The veneer is actually a composite resin that is applied in thin layers, each layer being hardened with a bright light. When the last layer is completed, we can then shape and polish the tooth for a smooth, natural finish.
Porcelain veneers are applied in a similar way to composite resin veneers. The biggest difference is that a porcelain veneer is applied like a thin shell on top of your tooth. During your initial visit, the dentist may have to remove a thin layer of enamel to make space for the application of the porcelain veneer. During that visit, the dentist will also take a mould of the teeth you want treated so that the veneers can be made in the right size and shape and protect your teeth with a temporary veneer. At your next visit, the tooth will be treated with a mild chemical that slightly roughens the tooth surface for better adhesion, and then the veneer is bonded onto the tooth. You will leave this visit with reasons to smile!
