At Bow Island Dental Centre, we can help you reshape and redesign your smile with veneers in Bow Island. Veneers cover teeth that are chipped, stained, or misaligned, making a significant difference to both your smile and self-confidence.
Are Veneers the Right Solutions for You?
Veneers are a popular option for many people who are interested in improving the appearance of chipped, stained, or awkwardly spaced teeth. However, your teeth and gums should be healthy for veneers to be successfully placed on your teeth – if your tooth surface is fractured or weak or if you grind your teeth, veneers may not be an ideal solution for you. Those who can use veneers tell us they appreciate that veneers:
Can last up to 20 years
Look and feel natural
Are easy to care for with regular brushing and flossing
To apply a veneer, your dentist will use a mild chemical and will slightly roughen the surface of the teeth to be veneered. This process will help the veneer adhere to the enamel. The veneer is actually a composite resin that is applied in thin layers, and with a bright light, each layer is being hardened. Once the last layer is completed, we can shape and polish the tooth for a smooth, natural finish.
Porcelain veneers are applied in a similar fashion as composite resin veneers. The main and biggest difference is that a porcelain veneer is applied like a thin shell on top of your tooth. During your initial visit, the dentist may have to remove a thin layer of enamel to create space for the application of the porcelain veneer. During that visit, the dentist will also take a mould of the teeth you want treated so that the veneers can be made in the right shape and size and protect your teeth with a temporary veneer. At your next visit, we will treat the tooth with a mild chemical that slightly roughens the tooth surface for better adhesion, and then the veneer is then bonded onto the tooth. You will have plenty of reasons to smile after leaving this last visit!
